Are you going to let the Party die?

According to the Politico a high ranking Clinton campaign official has floated a new strategy that, if successful, would give HRC the nomination.

We've already heard that she'll go after the super delegates. Whatever. They can flip-flop all over the place. Though if they go against the clear will of the people you'll be lucky if the Democratic party exists for much longer. Or perhaps unlucky since it'll lose every election.

But this is different and this is something that is guaranteed to destroy the party.

What is it you ask?

According to this official HRC will start going after pledged delegates if necessary to win. You know. The delegates you see over on the right side of the screen. The ones that the people voted for.

Technically they can switch too. Though persuading them to go against the will of the voters will be a massive public fight which will be damaging on multiple fronts.

After such a battle there will be a depressed turnout for the GE and McCain will most certainly win.

Because of that there will be no coattails and the Democrats running against Republicans in state and federal elections will not win as many contests.

There will also be long term damage as many disillusioned voters drift away from the party seeking something else.

The Obama camp has responded that they have no such plans to go after HRC's pledged delegates.

The question is not whether it's worth it to HRC's campaign.

According to them "All the rules will be going out the window" should this thing be close at the end.

Which of course it will since it's not a winner take all system.

The question is whether or not it's worth it to us. Is it?

Who the hell would vote "Yes" to this poll???

Anonymous sourcing. (2.00 / 1)

I would expect anti-war voters (this seems to be the primary issue on which Obama partisans hang their rhetorical hats, as he gave that speech in 2002, before he was nationally known) to be more skeptical of anonymous sources in random comments in online journals.  In fact, my guess - based on the near hysteria of the above-post - is that this "news story" is meant to fan the flames of animousity between Clinton supporters and Obama supporters, and has either been planted by 1. a republican; 2. someone in the Obama campaign to reopen the "she'll do anything" meme that she likes so much.

Here's what I'm going to do: I'm going to decide what I think about what HRC does when she does it, not when it is reported by "anonymous sources" to Politico.com and then trumpted as "election-stealing" by Obama partisans desparate to change the talking-points cycle from Obama's re-use of old campaign speeches left over from Deval Patrick's campaign for office.

Aww you sounded so rational until the end.

Which is a good thing (2.00 / 1)

Doing or saying anything to win elections is a good thing. It is what both Gore and Kerry lacked. They folded when the Republicans stole respectively FL and OH. Nice to see someone ruthless running.

What's your point? (none / 0)

I understand the technicalities.

Re: Are you going to let the Party die? (none / 0)

Nice. Now none of the votes count. Excellent position.

Re: The points being made (none / 0)

As I pointed out in my post this is technically possible. But that's not really the point is it?

"Those are the rules" isn't going to make the voters feel any better. They're not going to say OH OK! They're going to say "Fuck you" and stay at home.

Re: The points being made (none / 0)

He'll be ahead in the pledged delegate count so that seems unlikely but where's your proof? They've denied any such plan.

Flail away.

Thug! Classy!

Good luck getting the black vote back!

Your speculation is noted, weighed, and placed where it belongs.

Lets face it. If this goes to the convention the smarter and more ruthless candidate will win. Ask Bill Gates how he got rich. By being nice, I dont think so.

Re: Are you going to let the Party die? (none / 0)

Ah yes. JJjr with his magic pot of gold and mystical machine that can create hundreds of primary challengers out of whole cloth.

That makes sense.

Re: rhetorical bullshit (none / 0)

Tap dancing! Classy!

As my post said, which you clearly didn't read, I understand the technicalities. I also understand you don't give a shit about the Democratic party. So much so that I'd guess that you weren't just some shithead but in fact could be some redstater or LGFer over here fucking around.

Re: A primary challenge is perfectly OK (none / 0)

But of course one person can't legitimately make that sort of threat so there was no threat.

Re: Are you going to let the Party die? (none / 0)

Your evidence that Obama is responsible for any split please. Clearly it's not present in this post that shows that HRC is willing to do anything to win the nomination even if it will kill the party.

by illlaw1 on Tue Feb 19, 2008 at 10:48:32 AM EST

Wouldn't Obama do it too? (none / 0)

Somehow I think he would.

But on this point, this just illustrates how stupid the system currently is. Please fix it. I'd love to have been a fly in the room where Edwards met with Clinton and Obama and in those back rooms where the real deals affecting our future are made.

Re: Wouldn't Obama do it too? (none / 0)

Well they've certainly denied it and he'll be ahead in the pledged delegate count so it wouldn't even be necessary.
